Measles, Mumps & Rubella (MMR) Vaccination
Reliable Protection Against Three Highly Contagious Diseases
Measles, mumps and rubella are viral infections that spread easily and can cause serious complications. Vaccination has made these illnesses rare in Australia, but outbreaks can still occur.
What Are Measles, Mumps and Rubella?
- Measles: Causes fever, cough and a red rash. It can lead to pneumonia or brain swelling.
- Mumps: Causes swollen, painful glands near the jaw, fever, and tiredness.
- Rubella: Usually mild but dangerous in pregnancy, as it can cause serious birth defects.
Why Get Vaccinated?
MMR vaccines provide long-lasting protection. They prevent disease, protect pregnant women, and help stop outbreaks in the community.
Who Should Get the MMR Vaccine?
- Anyone born after 1966 without a documented history of 2 doses of the MMR vaccine administered after 12 months of age, OR without immunity confirmed through blood tests.
