The hazard of paracetamol overdose is greater in patients with noncirrhotic alcoholic liver disease. Immediate medical advice should be sought in the event of an overdose, even if the patient feels well, because of the risk of delayed, serious liver damage. Undesirable effects may be minimised by using the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration necessary to control symptoms. Patients must not exceed the stated dose.
